Construction site porta potty rental
Job-site toilets sized to Cal/OSHA rules, delivered and cleaned every week. Title 8 §1526 requires at least one toilet per 20 workers of each sex, and §1527 requires one washing station per 20 workers—we size your order to both. Units stay on site in 28-day billing cycles until you call for removal, and high-rise units can be crane-lifted between floors.

Cal/OSHA toilet and washing requirements
California job sites follow Cal/OSHA Title 8; federal 29 CFR 1926.51 sets a separate national baseline.
| Requirement | Cal/OSHA (Title 8) | Federal OSHA (1926.51) |
|---|---|---|
| Toilet count | 1 per 20 employees or fraction thereof of each sex (§1526(a)) | 20 or fewer: 1 · 20+: 1 seat + 1 urinal per 40 · 200+: 1 seat + 1 urinal per 50 |
| Field minimum | Not less than 1 toilet under temporary field conditions (§1526(b)) | Applies where no sanitary sewer is available |
| Condition | Kept clean, in good working order, private, with adequate toilet paper (§1526(d)) | Sanitary facilities required |
| Washing | 1 station per 20 employees; water, soap, single-use towels (§1527) | Adequate washing facilities where needed |
| Mobile crews | Exempt with transport to nearby facilities (§1526(e)) | Similar exemption |
Legal minimum vs. what works on a real crew
The legal minimum only counts heads. What actually keeps a unit usable also depends on hours: a standard 60-gallon unit cleaned once a week comfortably serves about 10 workers on 40-hour weeks.
- 16 workers, mixed crew (14 men, 2 women): 2 toilets by law (1 + 1); 2 by our planning figure.
- 25 men: 2 toilets by law; we suggest 3, or 2 cleaned twice a week.
- Two shifts: ask for twice-weekly cleaning before adding units.
Job-site units we supply
Standard unit
The everyday job-site toilet. Small footprint, 60-gallon tank, easy to place beside a site trailer or at the edge of a pad.
High-rise unit
Satellite Highrise: 31.2″ wide without its roof so it rolls through standard doorways; a lift kit lets your crane or hoist raise it between floors. Its 38-gallon tank fills faster, so busy floors need more frequent cleaning.
Hand-wash station
Covers Cal/OSHA §1527: one station per 20 workers, placed right next to the toilets.
What happens on a job-site service visit
Our driver pumps the tank, cleans the inside, recharges the deodorizer and restocks paper and soap, then logs the visit. If a unit has been tipped, damaged or moved, the driver reports it and we schedule a fix on the next route.

Keep service day smooth
- Keep a truck-width path to the unit; don’t box it in with materials or dumpsters.
- Share gate codes and lockbox changes before service day.
- Report tipped or damaged units right away.
- Ask for a move before grading changes the access road.
Frequently asked questions
How many porta potties does my crew need under Cal/OSHA?
Title 8 §1526(a): at least one toilet per 20 employees or fraction thereof of each sex. 20 men = 1; 21 men = 2; 18 men + 3 women = 2 (one for each). Under temporary field conditions, not less than one toilet must be available (§1526(b)).
Do I also need a hand-washing station?
Yes. §1527 requires one washing station per 20 employees, located so workers can readily wash after using a toilet. With non-water toilets, the station goes outside the toilet and is signed for use (exception where fewer than 5 employees share one facility).
How is a construction rental billed?
In 28-day cycles. A real quote: $247.20 for the first 28 days (delivery included), $205 for each later 4-week period and $29 removal at the end, with weekly cleaning.
What if my project runs longer than planned?
The rental continues into another cycle at the recurring rate. You don’t need to rebook—call when the site is ready for removal.
Can you lift a toilet onto an upper floor?
Yes, with the Satellite Highrise. It’s 31.2″ wide without the roof so it rolls through standard doorways, and an optional lift kit lets your crane or hoist raise it between floors.
Can you move the unit as the job progresses?
Yes. Ask for a relocation when the building pad or access changes; we schedule it on a route day. Tell us about new gate codes or fencing changes before service day.
