How Contra Costa County differs by area
East County
Brentwood, Antioch, Oakley, Pittsburg, Discovery Bay, Byron, Knightsen, Bethel Island—hot summers, Delta wind, farms and new subdivisions.
Central County
Concord, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Clayton, Lafayette—remodels, downtown events, HOA neighborhoods.
San Ramon Valley
San Ramon, Danville, Blackhawk, Alamo—master-planned HOAs, corporate campuses.
West County
Richmond, San Pablo, El Sobrante, Pinole, Hercules—industrial waterfront, cooler and windier.
Permits and county requirements
Private-property placements generally need no permit. In unincorporated areas (Discovery Bay, Byron, Bay Point, El Sobrante and others), placements on public roads go through Contra Costa County rather than a city. Events serving food may involve Contra Costa Health’s environmental health program, whose permit conditions can specify toilets and hand-washing—share them with us. Farm crews fall under Cal/OSHA field-sanitation rules (8 CCR §3457).
